Travel Back in Time

The History of Bishop's Flowers

Bishop's Flowers was founded by Winifred Lucille 'Winnie' Bishop in the late 1940s in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1963, Winnie and her husband moved to Huntsville and became a prominent business with outstanding creative ability, work ethic, and reliability. Winnie taught many floral design seminars in the Southeast and received numerous awards, including Alabama Florist of the Year in 1973. Since then, Bishops has had many locations all around Huntsville; from Parkway City, to a historic house next to First Baptist Church on Governors, to Bailey Cove in Willowbrook Shopping Center across from Grissom. The business was then purchased by Pam and Allan Fleming and operated for several years. Adding onto a few more locations around the city; from Parkway City Mall, to their own building on Williams Street behind Twickenham Station Restaurant, to an old church building on Humes. During that time, the Flemings employees; Jerry Williamson, Bobby Black, Roger Thomas, and John Pope purchased the business and moved to Pratt Avenue; next door to Olde Towne Coffee. They maintained a successful business and then moved to Meridian Street for several years. Currently Bishops is located on Andrew Jackson Way, in our 8th year at this location. Since then, Roger, John, and Bobby have retired and a new wonderful partner was brought in; Leigh Cella.
